Does pantothenic acid help with acne?
Recently, pantothenic acid has received special attention in connection with skin problems such as acne. It is not currently established that pantothenic acid really helps with acne, but among the many studies conducted in the field, one can see interesting results. One study (1) investigated how supplements with pantothenic acid can affect the degree of inflammation and the frequency of acne breakouts in people with mild to moderate acne. A total of 48 people participated in the study, half of whom received a total of 2.2 g of pantothenic acid per day while the rest received placebo. After 12 weeks, a significant improvement in inflammatory acne was seen in the group treated with pantothenic acid compared to the placebo group. The results also showed that the participants tolerated the supplement well without any reported side effects.
Can you overdose on pantothenic acid?
Pantothenic acid has a very low toxicity and there is currently no information on which dosage could be harmful. Because vitamin B5 is a water-soluble vitamin, any excess is excreted in the urine. There are also few reported side effects from taking pantothenic acid. Follow the dosage instructions on the package to avoid any side effects.
